Chalets in Lech and Oberlech

Lech and Oberlech suit different kinds of chalet week. Choose Lech if walking to restaurants and moving around the village matter most. Consider Oberlech if you want a mountain setting and are happy to organise arrivals around the property's access arrangements. Before comparing pools or photographs, decide how everyone will leave the house each morning and return after dinner.

Both belong to the Arlberg region, but Lech is in Vorarlberg. A stay marketed as an Arlberg chalet is not automatically in St Anton, and a Lech address does not establish whether you can reach the front door by car in winter. The exact district is part of the booking decision.

These are planning recommendations, rather than rankings of the districts. An individual chalet can change the balance: a reliable driver might remove the inconvenience of an outlying address, while an apartment's position within a building might matter more than its postcode.

What car free Oberlech actually means

The lift operator identifies the Burgplateau district of Oberlech as car free from December through April. Its published arrival arrangement uses parking in Lech followed by the Bergbahn Oberlech, with luggage handling organised at the arrival area. Confirm the arrangement for your particular chalet; do not extend this description to every address marketed as Oberlech.1

Ask the host for one set of instructions covering the driver, passengers and bags. If you arrive after the cable car stops running, a normal daytime description is insufficient. Have the host explain the late arrival procedure before choosing flights or trains.

A car free setting also affects self catering. Find out how a grocery delivery reaches the kitchen, where you collect ski equipment and whether you need to carry a child between separate parts of the journey. Guests who enjoy the quiet mountain setting may consider that extra coordination worthwhile. Others will prefer straightforward road access.

Three accommodation examples with different service models

Chalet Mimi for a staffed whole house

The operator's fact sheet lists six bedrooms for up to fourteen guests, including children's bunk accommodation, and a spa with a fourteen metre indoor pool. Treat the adult and child bed arrangement as a separate question from the maximum occupancy. A fourteen guest headline does not mean fourteen equivalent adult beds.2

Start with the Chalet Mimi details, then ask for the current floor plan and a written schedule of included staff and meals. If members of your group need level access, request the internal route between their bedroom, dining room and pool. A large house can involve substantial movement between floors.

Lech Lodge for individual chalet categories

Lech Lodge offers separately named units, with its published collection ranging from Chalet Lech I for up to five guests to Chalet Lech II for eight. The operator places the property in Omesberg. Choose the category before you compare its layout with another stay.3

The owner lists private sauna and steam shower facilities and breakfast delivered to the chalet. That is useful for guests who want a kitchen alongside some service. It does not establish that every evening meal is included in the accommodation rate.4

The Lech Lodge page is a starting point for comparing the units. For several couples, request the actual bedroom and bathroom allocation rather than adding advertised capacities together.

Hohe Welt for apartments or an exclusive group booking

Hohe Welt describes four apartments and offers the possibility of booking all four exclusively. Its published services include an outdoor pool, private saunas and optional catering arrangements. Establish which spaces become exclusive when taking the whole property, and which services your quote includes.5

An apartment within a small building and an exclusive booking of that building create different holidays. A group expecting a house entirely to itself should have exclusive use stated in the confirmation. A shared pool within a small development remains shared unless the booking makes it private.

How to compare ski access properly

For each property, identify the first lift you will actually use, the place where beginners meet an instructor and the easiest return at the end of the day. These can be three different locations. A chalet beside a piste may be convenient for strong skiers and awkward for a child attending lessons elsewhere.

Ask whether the return involves a marked piste appropriate to your weakest skier. If the return is unsuitable, work out the alternative using a lift, bus or driver. Do not assume that a scenic chalet photograph proves a straightforward ski home.

Compare the ski in and ski out guide if piste access is a priority. For a mixed group, the best position is often the one that allows everyone to start independently, even if it has fewer facilities inside.

Arrival by train and getting around

Lech Zürs tourism identifies Langen am Arlberg and St Anton am Arlberg as rail gateways, followed by bus, taxi or a private transfer. Neither is a railway station in Lech itself.6

The local bus connects the Lech Zürs districts. The operator distinguishes local journeys included with a valid ski ticket from chargeable regional services to railway stations. Confirm your ticket entitlement and timetable for the route you need.7

For a self catered booking, plan the first evening alongside the transfer: arrival, key collection, food and any children's bedtime. If the journey has several changes, a prepared first meal may be more valuable than an additional wellness feature.

Who should choose a different base

Compare St Anton chalets if direct railway access to the resort is your main concern. Compare Sölden if a spring trip depends on glacier skiing. These are different starting points for a shortlist, rather than substitutes for checking the location of the exact chalet.

If your group mostly wants to ski, eat and spend evenings together, choose between two or three properties on the morning routine and the bed allocation. If several people will spend their days away from the slopes, compare the independent walking route into the village with equal care.

Practical answers

Questions about chalets in Lech

Is every Oberlech chalet inaccessible by car in winter?

No. The published car free arrangement specifically identifies Burgplateau. Ask the accommodation provider which access arrangement applies to the exact address.

Does a private sauna mean the pool is private too?

No. Establish the use of each facility separately. An apartment can have a private sauna while guests share a pool with other units.

Can we book a self catered chalet with breakfast?

Some properties offer that combination. Lech Lodge publishes chalet breakfast service, while the kitchen remains part of the accommodation. Confirm the meal plan on your own rate.

Is Oberlech convenient for non skiers?

It can be, if guests can independently use the permitted transport and reach the activities they want. Check operating hours, pedestrian tickets and the walk from the chalet before deciding.

Can we book only three nights?

Ask for your exact dates. Large chalet availability and minimum stays vary by season; a search result for three nights does not prove that the preferred chalet accepts them.

Choose your district first, then compare the Lech Lodge and Chalet Mimi pages with the full accommodation selection. Keep the exact unit name, meals and arrival arrangement beside each price.
