Chalets in Tyrol

Tyrol is the Austrian state behind many of the best-known names in Alpine skiing: St Anton, Sölden, Ischgl, the Zillertal and Kitzbühel. This page is the overview. It compares the Tyrolean ski areas by height, size and character, shows where the chalets, apartments and resort stays in our selection sit, and points you to the destination page for each area once you know where you want to be.

Chalets in Tyrol

38 chalets and chalet apartments, 30 apartments and resort stays. Hotels are listed separately and never counted as chalets.

Filter the stays

Results count stays that match your choices. Facilities include those listed by one source, usually the owner. Dates and availability are confirmed on the provider's website.

There are also 3 hotels in the area: see hotels in the Austrian Alps.

Innsbruck is the state capital, according to the state government and an independent encyclopedia. Tyrol also has a separate southern part, East Tyrol, where Kals am Großglockner sits. South Tyrol is a different place: it is an autonomous province of Italy. Our Tyrol selection also takes in the Vorarlberg side of the Arlberg, because Lech, Warth and Stuben share one lift network with St Anton.

Use this page to shortlist. Each section covers one group of ski areas, names the stays we track there and links to the full destination page where one exists. If you already know the area, go straight to chalets in St Anton, Sölden chalets, the Zillertal chalet guide or Kitzbühel and Kirchberg.

If you are not sure yet where to go, compare capacity and access first, then pick the village that fits.

The big picture

Tyrol's ski areas at a glance

Tyrol's ski areas fall into three broad types. There are the glacier areas, where the lifts climb past 3,000 m; the large linked circuits such as Ski Arlberg, the Silvretta Arena and the SkiWelt; and smaller valley areas where a chalet week is more about the house than the lift map. Each figure here comes from an official page, checked against an independent resort database.

Five glacier ski areas sit in Tyrol: Hintertux, Kaunertal, Pitztal, Sölden and Stubai, according to the Tyrolean tourist board and an independent database. Pitztal reaches highest, at 3,440 m. Hintertux is the one where skiing runs through almost the whole year; the others open from autumn until late spring. For a winter chalet week, a glacier is mainly a reserve in a thin snow year.

Height varies a lot between the big names. KitzSki runs from 800 to 2,000 m and the SkiWelt from 620 to 1,869 m, while Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis starts at 1,200 m, Ski Arlberg at about 1,300 m and Sölden at 1,350 m. That difference shows at the start and end of the season, and in how much each area leans on snowmaking. Our comparison of Austria's top ski resorts weighs them with the Salzburgerland areas.

West Tyrol

St Anton, the Arlberg and the Paznaun around Ischgl

St Anton am Arlberg is the Tyrolean end of Ski Arlberg, a lift network that also links Lech, Zürs, Stuben, Warth and Schröcken on the Vorarlberg side. Ski Arlberg gives 301 km of pistes and 85 lifts between about 1,300 and 2,811 m, with the Valluga as the high point, according to the lift company, the St Anton tourist board and an independent database. The St Anton page linked above covers the village, transfers and terrain in detail.

St Anton is where the largest chalets with meals included are. Chalet Alber sleeps 32 to 39 across 15 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, and Chalet Levett takes 22 to 24 in eleven bedrooms with seven bathrooms. Chalet Christiane, for 16, and Chalet Alpinum, for up to 15, are smaller; at both, two sources confirm meals, a private sauna and a fireplace, and the Alpinum adds a confirmed hot tub.

Several stays in our selection are just over the state line in Vorarlberg but on the same Ski Arlberg network. In Oberlech, Le Chalet lists seven bedrooms for up to fourteen, a private indoor pool and a chef, and Chalet Mimi lists six bedrooms, an indoor pool and a staffed team; the owners list both as ski-in/ski-out. In Warth, Jup is a three-bedroom house for up to eight with a private sauna, as the owner lists it.

Ischgl's Silvretta Arena has 239 km of pistes and tops out at 2,872 m, according to the Ischgl tourist board and an independent database, and it crosses the Swiss border to Samnaun. In Ischgl, Luf Lodges rents whole houses, with four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a private sauna listed in the Rooftop category. In Kappl, Paznauner Villen has two three-bedroom villas sharing a heated infinity pool, as the owner lists it, and SGmiatli three apartments each listed with a bio sauna.

High ground

Sölden, the Ötztal and Tyrol's glacier valleys

Sölden is the high-altitude choice among the big names. Its ski area joins three parts, Giggijoch, Gaislachkogl and the glacier, with 31 lifts between 1,350 and 3,340 m, according to the Sölden tourist board and an independent database. Piste totals differ slightly between those sources, so we do not quote one. Sölden's own destination page, linked at the top, has the detail on terrain, transfers and the village.

Sölden has the most stays in our Tyrol selection, thirteen in all, and several are large. Chalet Alpenheim Simone and Chalet Willi both sleep sixteen with a bathroom for every bedroom, six and seven respectively, and A Casa Rubin Chalet lists eight bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, for 18 to 20, plus two kitchens and a private sauna. Smaller groups can look at the two eight-guest chalets of A Casa Brilliant.

The other glacier valleys have quieter bases. In the Pitztal, whose glacier reaches 3,440 m, Das Chaletdorf in St Leonhard has two-bedroom chalets with a private infrared sauna and a fireplace, reached by stairs and hillside paths, as the owner describes them. In the Stubai valley, whose glacier tops out at 3,210 m, Gletscher Chalet in Neustift im Stubaital has six chalet and loft categories for two to twelve, with breakfast included, as listed.

Elsewhere in this part of Tyrol, All-Suite Resort Ötztal in Oetz lists apartments about 100 m from the Acherkogelbahn with a shared bath house and pools, and AlpinLodges Kühtai in Kühtai lists ski-in/ski-out lodges with a private sauna in the largest, Adlerhorst. In Obergurgl, Chalet Obergurgl Luxury Apartments pairs a bathroom for every bedroom with a shared indoor pool.

Three villages

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis chalets for big groups and families

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis links three villages on one ski area with 38 lifts between 1,200 and 2,828 m, according to the area's tourism office, the Tyrolean tourist board and an independent database. The tourism office counts 214 km of slopes and ski routes combined, while the Tyrolean tourist board uses a smaller figure on a different basis. Either way it is a big area that starts higher than the Kitzbühel Alps.

We have no separate destination page for Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis yet, so its stays live here. Two are among the largest houses in the selection: Chalet Kelle sleeps 26 to 35 in twelve bedrooms with twelve bathrooms, with an included meal service and a private sauna confirmed by two sources, and Chalet Tiroler Hof is listed by its owner for up to 38. Both appear on our large chalets for groups page.

For smaller parties, Domenigs Luxury Apartments has seven apartments, each listed with a private sauna, and a lift listed 250 m away; pets are not allowed. Hüttendorf Ladizium in Ladis lists chalets from a cabin for two up to nine guests, with private sauna facilities and breakfast delivered in a basket. Serfaus Mountain Lodge and Fiss Suites add family apartments with four and three bedrooms respectively, the latter with a shared sauna area.

One valley, four areas

Zillertal chalets: Mayrhofen, Fügen and the Zillertal Arena

The Zillertal has four ski areas on one pass, the Zillertal Superskipass: Mayrhofen's MOUNTOPOLIS, the Zillertal Arena, Hochzillertal-Hochfügen-Spieljoch and the Hintertux Glacier, according to Zillertal tourism and the Fügen-Kaltenbach tourist office. Mayrhofen alone has 142 km of pistes and 61 lifts, and the Zillertal Arena has 150 km and 52 lifts, reaching across into Salzburg state. The Zillertal Arena page covers Zell am Ziller and Gerlos.

In Mayrhofen, EMMA's Chalet is 340 m² over three storeys for six to nine, with the Penkenbahn listed 60 m away; pets, a private sauna and a fireplace are confirmed by two sources. Apart Central has Chalet Royal for up to sixteen across eight bedrooms with its own spa, while Chalet Residenz Zillertal Mühlermoos and Brugger ChaletDorf are three- and four-bedroom chalets with private wellness, as their owners list it.

Around Fügen the stays lean towards groups and serviced chalets. HochLeger lists three chalets with daily cleaning and breakfast included, Naturlodge Tirol a six-bedroom timber lodge with a firm no-parties rule, and Chalet Almdorf Fügen five bedrooms for up to ten with a bus stop listed 5 metres away. In Aschau, Chalet Rocking Home takes 16 to 20 across eight bedrooms, with the lift listed 3.6 km away. The Zillertal chalet guide goes village by village.

Kitzbühel Alps

KitzSki and the SkiWelt: lower, linked and close to Salzburg

In the Kitzbühel Alps the lifts stay lower than in the west of the state. KitzSki links Kitzbühel, Kirchberg and Jochberg among other places, with 58 lifts between 800 and 2,000 m, according to the Kitzbüheler Alpen tourist board and an independent database. Its neighbour on the pass, the SkiWelt, counts 81 lifts and 275 km of pistes from 620 m up to 1,869 m, about 80 km from both Innsbruck and Salzburg airports.

On the pass pages of the Kitzbüheler Alpen and of Ski amadé, the SuperSkiCard lists both areas within its 23 regions, so a group based in either can ski the other. For winter 2026/27, KitzSki plans to open in November and to run the full connection from December, according to its timetable and an independent database. Our Kitzbühel and Kirchberg chalet page and the SkiWelt and Brixen im Thale page go into each in depth.

Kitzbühel stays in our selection include LaMonte Luxury Apartments, two apartments beside the Hahnenkamm valley station, and Kitzbühel Lodge in Reith, a 210 m² penthouse with a private sauna and two fireplaces, as listed. In Jochberg, Das Kitz has residence units with up to five bedrooms for sixteen, and in Kirchberg AlpenParks Hotel & Apartment Taxacher combines fifty apartments with a shared pool and saunas.

Quieter corners

The Achensee, East Tyrol and other quieter Tyrolean bases

Not every Tyrolean stay sits in a big-name resort. At the Achensee, Meerberg in Pertisau has two apartment types for up to four, one with a private hot pot and one with a sauna, and Purest in Achenkirch has six suites led by a 120 m² penthouse with a Finnish sauna and a terrace whirlpool, as listed.

East Tyrol is the separate southern part of the state. Kals am Großglockner lies there, in the Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei, according to the resort and an independent encyclopedia. Gradonna Mountain Resort Chalets & Hotel has a Deluxe chalet listed directly on the piste, with a private Finnish and infrared spa and roughly 250 m² for two to six, plus a washing machine and ski storage, as the owner lists them.

A few interesting houses sit in villages that do not yet have their own page. Boutique Hotel und Chalets Bergwiesenglück in See im Paznaun pairs a private sauna and outdoor bath with breakfast or half board, and Apartment Fluchthorn in Ischgl is listed for up to five. The full list of stays shows every property with its confirmed and listed facts.

Big groups

Large chalets in Tyrol and chalets with meals included

Tyrol has plenty of very large chalets in our selection. Seven stays take twenty or more guests: two each in St Anton and Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, and one each in Hopfgarten, Aschau im Zillertal and Sölden. At that size the bathroom count matters more than the bedroom count, and the range is wide, from a bathroom for every bedroom to well under one per room.

Two sources confirm an included meal service at four St Anton chalets and one in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, all covered above. Ask each what it means in practice: which meals, how many days a week, and how dietary needs are handled, because we found little detail. The chalets with meals included page compares them, and the self-catering versus meals provided explainer sets out the trade-offs.

Private wellness is common in the Tyrolean selection, but read the wording. Where two sources confirm a sauna, as at Chalet Christiane, we say so; where only the owner lists it, we label it. EMMA's Chalet in Mayrhofen is one of the few with pets confirmed by two sources. The chalets with private wellness and dog-friendly chalets pages filter for both.

Getting there

Getting to a chalet in Tyrol: airports, transfers and driving

Innsbruck is the obvious airport for most of Tyrol, but the best choice depends on the valley. On official figures, Sölden is 83 km and about 1 hour 15 minutes from Innsbruck, St Anton and Ischgl each about 100 km, and the SkiWelt about 80 km, with independent transfer operators close behind. For the SkiWelt, Salzburg is a real alternative at about 80 km too.

Zurich works for the Arlberg: Ski Arlberg lists it 200 km from St Anton, with a direct train connection. Munich serves the whole state but is further from most resorts, with official road distances to St Anton and Sölden well over 200 km. Pick the airport after the valley, not before.

Self-drive groups should sort two things before the border. Austria's motorway network requires a vignette, and ASFINAG, the road operator, sells it online in digital form; the Arlberg is one of the stretches with an extra section toll on top. When snow, slush or ice is on the road in winter, the law asks for winter tyres with a minimum 4 mm tread. How to reach a chalet in Austria by air, rail and road goes resort by resort.

Summer and families

Tyrol in summer and with children

In summer, Tyrolean cable cars generally operate between May and October on the state tourist board's guidance, each lift setting its own opening days, and Westendorf is a typical example. Some chalets in this selection state summer opening in their listings: Chalet Marmotta Neve in St Anton is listed as open from July to September, with residences for eight, ten and up to twelve.

Summer guest cards differ by valley, so check the card for your village before you choose a base, along with which lifts near the chalet open in summer. For walkers, the pages on chalets for a summer holiday and where to stay on a hiking holiday set Tyrol beside the rest of Austria.

Families should look for two things: easy terrain near the house and services at the stay. In this selection, AlpenParks The Secret Sölden lists a playground next to the hotel and a cot and high chair on request, and Aadla Walser-Chalets in Schröcken, on the Vorarlberg side of the Arlberg, lists a playground and equipment loan for young children. Chalet Resort Sölden lists five separate log-cabin chalets, each with its own sauna and steam bath.

Choosing

How to choose between Tyrol's ski areas and chalets

Pick the ski area first, then the house. Strong skiers who want high, steep terrain tend to start with the Arlberg, Sölden or Ischgl. Mixed groups who want mileage on red and blue runs often do well in the SkiWelt, the Zillertal or Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. Anyone nervous about snow at the start or end of the season should favour the higher bases or a valley with a glacier.

Then filter by your group. Count beds and bathrooms, decide if you want meals provided or a kitchen of your own, and set a maximum walk to the lift. Distances on this site come from the listings and are labelled as listed; a missing distance is a question for the owner before you pay a deposit. If the format is still open, read choosing a chalet or an apartment.

Finally, look across the border. Salzburgerland has its own big areas, and the Zillertal Arena crosses into it. The Salzburgerland chalets page and the Königsleiten chalet page are the next step if Tyrol's resorts do not fit, and how we compare and label stays sets out the rules behind every fact here.

Practical answers

Questions about Tyrol

About Tyrol

Is Tyrol in Austria or Italy?

Tyrol is a state of Austria, with Innsbruck as its capital, according to the Tyrolean state government and an independent encyclopedia. South Tyrol, often confused with it, is an autonomous province of northern Italy. The ski areas on this page, from St Anton to Kitzbühel, are all in Austrian Tyrol or on the Vorarlberg side of the Arlberg.

What is East Tyrol?

East Tyrol is the separate southern part of the Austrian state of Tyrol, away from Innsbruck and the main Tyrolean ski valleys. Kals am Großglockner and the Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei, the ski area shared by Kals and Matrei, are there, according to the resort and an independent encyclopedia. One East Tyrol chalet is in our selection.

Tyrol's ski areas

What is the highest ski resort in Tyrol?

Of Tyrol's five glacier ski areas, the Pitztal Glacier reaches highest, at 3,440 m, according to the Tyrolean tourist board and an independent database. Sölden reaches 3,340 m and Hintertux 3,250 m. Among the big linked areas without a glacier, Ski Arlberg tops out at 2,811 m on the Valluga.

Can you ski all year round in Tyrol?

Yes, on the Hintertux Glacier in the Zillertal, where skiing runs almost the whole year, according to the Tyrolean tourist board and an independent database. Tyrol's other glacier areas, Kaunertal, Pitztal, Sölden and Stubai, open from autumn until late spring, and the rest of the Tyrolean ski areas follow the main winter season.

What are the best ski resorts in Tyrol for a chalet holiday?

It depends on the group. St Anton and the Arlberg suit strong skiers, Sölden suits groups who want height, the SkiWelt and the Zillertal suit mixed groups who want plenty of red and blue runs, and Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis has some of the largest chalets in our Tyrol selection. Compare capacity and lift distance first.

Is there one ski pass for all of Tyrol?

Tyrol's ski areas mostly sell their own passes, and several regional passes cover more than one area. The Zillertal Superskipass covers four Zillertal ski areas including Hintertux, and the SuperSkiCard covers KitzSki and the SkiWelt among 23 regions. Check which pass your chalet's nearest lift sells before you buy for the whole group.

When is the ski season in Tyrol?

The big Tyrolean areas on this page mostly run from early December into April, with exact dates set by each lift company. For winter 2026/27, KitzSki plans to open in November and the SkiWelt in early December. The glacier areas open in autumn and run into late spring, and Hintertux runs almost all year.

Getting to Tyrol

What is the nearest airport for a ski holiday in Tyrol?

Innsbruck is the nearest airport for most Tyrolean resorts: on official figures Sölden is 83 km away, St Anton and Ischgl about 100 km, and the SkiWelt about 80 km. Salzburg is as close for the SkiWelt, and Zurich, 200 km from St Anton, works for the Arlberg.

Do you need winter tyres to drive to a chalet in Tyrol?

Yes, whenever the roads are wintry. In the cold months Austrian law makes winter tyres, 4 mm of tread or more, compulsory on snow, slush or ice, according to the Austrian motoring club and an independent guide. Tyrol's motorways also need a vignette, and some routes, including the Arlberg, carry a separate section toll.

Choosing Tyrol

Tyrol or Salzburg: which is better for a chalet ski holiday?

Tyrol has the high glacier areas, the Arlberg and the Zillertal, and Innsbruck Airport is close to most of its resorts. Salzburgerland has big linked areas of its own, and the Zillertal Arena crosses between the two states. Choose by the ski area and the chalet that fit your group, not by the state.

Is Tyrol good for a summer chalet holiday?

It can be. Summer cable cars across Tyrol generally operate between May and October, on the state tourist board's guidance, so a summer week can still use the lifts. Ask the owner whether your chalet takes summer bookings, and check the summer guest card for your valley and whether your chalet's sauna or pool runs outside the winter season.
